Bangladesh's role had been praised at the working committee meeting of the peacekeeping missions at the UN headquarters in New York on Dec 17, he said.

Bangladesh began contributing to UN peace support operation in 1988. The country tops in terms of numerical contribution of nations with 9,275 personnel.

Currently, the UN has 104,320 peacekeepers from around 128 countries working in 16 missions.

Over a hundred Bangladeshis have so far died while on duty in peacekeeping missions.
