Kushtia Awami League factional clash kills 1

An Awami League activist has been killed in a factional clash in Kushtia, police say.

Eight others were injured in Friday night's skirmish at Mirpur Upazila.

Supporters of Porhadah Union AL unit chief Mosharraf Hossain and local leader 'Parvez' fought the turf war with sharp weapons.

The dead, Noor Islam, 35, was Hossain's supporter, Mirpur police OC Kazi Jalal Uddin said.

Several houses were reportedly torched during the clash.

Nine people, injured in the skirmish, were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital and Islam died there.

Police arrested one 'Rintu', a purported supporter of Parvez, from the scene.
