The accident took place in front of the old gate of Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) around 7am on Monday.

It led workers to block the Dhaka-Tangail highway for half an hour.

The victim was identified as ‘Mukta’, 27, a worker of a Korea-owned garments factory.

Ashulia Police OC Sheikh Badrul Alam said a bus filled with workers of the factory ran over Mukta, killing her on the spot.

Agitated workers vandalised the bus and set it ablaze. However, fire fighters from a nearby fire brigade station brought the flames under control quickly.

The OC said some of the workers onboard the bus, were injured when agitators pelted stones at it.

The blockade caused a traffic jam. Traffic resumed around 8am after the police brought the situation under control, said Badrul Alam.
