First phase of recruitment in police will see 17,000 appointments: minister

The initial recruitment process for 17,000 police jobs have begun, state minister for home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said.

This was the first phase in a plan to add 50,000 new police personnel, he said at a function on Thursday at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters.

The programme was held to mark the integration of RAB's Criminal Database Management System and the Election Commission's National ID database.
The minister said initiatives were on to establish a new police cell to fight cyber terrorism.
In February, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced that 50,000 new recruitments would be made for the police in phases.
The current manpower of Bangladesh Police stands at about 165,000.
