Soon after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 had announced the verdict on Wednesday, the Jamaat called countrywide shutdowns for Thursday, Sunday and Monday.
Rejecting the strike, the DTA in a communiqué, signed by its office secretary Samdani Khandaker, said, “Calling strikes against the decision of a court is undemocratic and contempt of court.
“Transport owners and workers are outright rejecting these anti-people shutdowns.”
The rejection cones amidst reports of clashes between Jamaat activists and police in several places including Rajshahi and Sylhet, minutes after the strike call.
Buses and minibuses would ply in Dhaka and its neighbouring districts like any other normal days on those three days of strike, the statement said.
The Dhaka Road Transport Association further said even long-distance buses would also operate if they get passengers.
