Giasuddin, 37, was hacked to death in a house at Mirpur Section-10 on Sunday night.

Police suspect Giasuddin’s wife Lovely Akter might have killed him following a fight over his alleged extra-marital affairs.

They also suspect that his dispute with his brother over lands might have led to the murder.

Akter and her 8-year-old daughter were at the house when Giasuddin was murdered.

Mirpur police interrogated Akter and took statements of her daughter.

Mirpur Police Station OC Salah Uddin Ahmed told bdnews24.com on Monday: “There are inconsistencies between the statements of Lovely and her daughter.”

He, however, did not elaborate on what the ‘inconsistencies’ were.

Ahmed said: “We came to know that Gias and his brother were locked in a dispute over land three days back. We’re checking if that is a reason of the murder.”

No case was filed until Monday night over the murder.

Asked if Akter was arrested, the police officer said: “It can be said that she is arrested only after Giasuddin’s family files a case.”
