Motihar police Sub-Inspector Masudar Rahman filed one of the cases under the Explosives Act and another for attacking police.

Thirty Shibir activists have been named in the cases, while 10 others have been arrested.

Thursday's clashes ensued after police detained the pro-Jamaat-e-Islami student front’s university unit General Secretary Ahmed Yasir and Organising Secretary Harun-ur Rashid around 11:30am when the Shibir activists tried to thwart a seminar at RUET.

Police arrested 11 Shibir members during the clash.

At around 5pm, Shibir activists clashed with police when they tried to enter Shaheed Selim Hall by exploding crude bombs.

The Shibir men clashed with police again later.

As tension brewed, the university authorities decided in an emergency meeting to shut down the institution, fearing sabotage.

The students vacated the residential halls by 10am on Friday but many said they had to face problems because of this sudden closure.

A large police contingent has been deployed on the campus to make sure the students could leave without a problem.
