Lalbagh police said the three are members of a gang of fraudsters who charges students in order to help them cheat via text messages on mobile phones during the test.
The detainees are ‘Mamun’, a student of Dhaka College, ‘Shanto’, and ‘Imran’.
Police, based on information provided by DU authorities, raided the Azimpur house and detained them around 3:30pm on Friday, acting Proctor Amjad Ali told bdnews24.com.
He said the gang was under observation for the last three days and finally three of its members were nabbed with police’s assistance. The university would sue them, he said.
The admission test of Jagannath University (JnU) was underway when the three was taken into custody.
Earlier in the day, seven students were detained from various centres for cheating in the DU admission test that began with the test for business studies (C unit).
The university has handed them over to police.
The teachers of three university admission coaching centres – UCC, Uniaid (Kiron-Suman-Kabir) and Paragon were helping them cheat, Ali said.
“The seven were caught while they were receiving answers to the test questions via text messages on their mobile phones.”
The trio arrested from Azimpur was using laptop and iPad to send the messages to the students, he said after the police raid.
The acting proctor said many documents including admit cards of several JnU admission-seekers were found in front of DU’s Shahidullah Hall on Friday morning.
Mamun’s name was mentioned in those papers as well as the amount of money paid for cheating assistance and contact numbers, Ali added.
