Islami Chhatra Sena’s chief Muhammad Nurul Haq Chisty made the announcement at a press briefing on Saturday in Dhaka.

Earlier, they had threatened to call a nationwide strike on Sunday and further tough movements across the nation if the killers are not nabbed by Saturday.

Farooqi, who hosted three programmes in two private TV channels, was murdered at his East Razabazar residence on Wednesday night.

He was the international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and also the Khatib of High Court Mazar mosque.

Police have arrested two people, Mahmuda Khatun, 43 and Shariful Islam, 35, from Narayanganj in connection with Farooqi’s murder.

They were arrested on Saturday from Rupganj Upazila's Murhaparha area, said police's Tejgaon Division's Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Wahidul Islam.

"They have been brought to Dhaka and are being questioned at the Detective Branch headquarters," the DMP official told bdnews24.com.

According to the victim's family, a woman claiming to be an admirer of Farooqi had come to visit him on Wednesday, hours before he was killed.

Mahmuda Khatun has admitted going to Farooqi's home prior to the murder, said ADC Islam.

Meanwhile, Farooqi was buried beside his parents at the family graveyard at Naotari Nawabganj village in Panchagarh’s Boda Upazila in the morning.

Earlier, a Namaj-e-Janaza, conducted by his elder son Ahmed Reza Farooqi, was held at the Munsiparha graveyard ground around 10:50am.

His body arrived at his ancestral home around 4am Saturday.

The body was kept at the Sardarparha Government Primary School ground for the people to pay their last respect.
