The 80-year old had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time, his daughter Renu Marma said.

He was the only Bir Bikram awardee indigenous freedom fighter.

Renu Marma said her father had passed away on Friday morning at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

Euke Ching is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.

He joined the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) in 1952. In March 1971, he was posted at Rangpur's Hatibandha border outpost as a Nayek.

He took part in the Liberation War with nine of his colleagues.

The freedom fighter would be cremated on Sunday at his family crematorium with state honour, his daughter said.
