2 die in stampede while collecting Zakat clothes

Two elderly females have died in a stampede while they gathered to collect clothes meant for Zakat.

This incident at Manikganj district town left 10 others injured.

Zakat is the charity made annually under Islamic law on certain kinds of property.

The dead have been identified as Jamila Begum, 60 and Sahela Begum, 62.

Manikganj Sadar Police Station OC Aminur Rahman said that the incident happened in front of Bashundhara Group Chairman's Chief Advisor Mahbub Morshed Runi's house in the town's Girls' School Road.

"The main entrance of the house was opened around 4am to start distribution of clothes. 12 persons were injured in the ensuing stampede. Jamila and Sahela died while being taken to hospital," he said.
