Ali is in Saudi Arabia to attend a two-day meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

According to the foreign ministry, the minister is leading a seven-member Bangladesh delegation.

OIC was established through a decision adopted at a summit of Muslim nations at Rabat, capital of Morocco on Sep 25, 1969 in response to an act of criminal arson at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem in Palestine.

A former minister of Saudi Arabia, Madani assumed office as the tenth Secretary General of OIC on Jan 1 after his election in the 12th OIC Summit in Cairo in February last year.

He visited Bangladesh in March in what foreign ministry earlier said was among the first few countries he visited after taking charge of the second largest international organisation.

During his visit, he welcomed the results of the Jan 5 elections in which major opposition BNP did not participate and looked forward to working with the Bangladesh government.
