Army car drives into ditch, soldier killed

An army car fell into a roadside ditch around Sunday noon near Chakaria Degree College in Cox’s Bazaar, leaving a soldier dead.

Gulzar Hossain, 32, was a driver of Cox’s Bazaar 16 Engineering Construction Battalion (ECB), Additional Superintendent of Police of Cox’s Bazar (Chakaria Circle) Md Masud Alam said.

The injured have been identified as 16 ECB soldier Md Faisal Hossain, 35; contractors Md Alamgir, a resident of Neechu Colony of Syedpur Upazila in Nilphamari; and Ataur Rahman, 26.

Alam said the car was heading towards Cox’s Bazaar from Chittagong. The driver lost control near Chakaria college gate and the car veered off the road into the ditch.
All those injured had been admitted to Chakaria Jamjam Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead.
The rest had been sent to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for better treatment.
