Ex-Indian chief justice to visit Bangladesh

The former Chief Justice of the India’s apex court Justice Altamas Kabir will visit Bangladesh from Wednesday.

He is the lead speaker at Shanto Marium University’s first convocation to be held on the day.

Indian High Commission in Dhaka says during his stay until Apr 26, Justice Kabir will also call on Bangladesh’s Chief Justice Md. Muzammel Hossain.

He will also deliver a public lecture on “Access to Justice for All” on Apr 24.

Born in Kolkata on July 19, 1948, Justice Kabir is the son of Late Jehangir Kabir, who along with his brother Late Professor Humayun Kabir, were closely involved in India’s independence struggle.

He completed his schooling from Calcutta Boys’ School and graduated in History from the Presidency College.

He completed his Post-graduate studies in Modern History and got a simultaneous LLB degree from Calcutta University.

Kabir commenced legal practice in 1973 and retired in 2012 after serving as the 39th Chief Justice of India.
