He and his friend Nabajit Chakma Ricky spoke to reporters at an army base in Khagrhachharhi on Saturday.

They said their unidentified captors fled after releasing them at Rangamati’s Kengrachharhi area at around 10pm Friday.

Authorities found them near a Buddhist temple in Hengelchharhi area. Army personnel later took them to Khagrhachharhi.

Tintin, lead singer of band Furamon, is popular among music lovers at the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

They said six to seven armed men abducted them from South Kengrachharhi, a remote area of Naniarchar, while they were going to Rangamati from Khagrhachharhi after performing there at ‘Biju’ festival on Apr 14.

Tintin said the abductors did not torture them but kept them moving from one place to another.

“They didn’t torture us. But they kept on shifting us from one place to another. I used to fear the worst whenever a helicopter flew over us,” he said.

The army began search for the two soon after their abduction. The officials said the abductors dumped the two at Kengrachharhi sensing the presence of army’s search team in the area.

Tintin is married to Trimida Chakma, the daughter of Brig Gen Tushar Kanti Chakma.

Trimida, an IT expert with a foreign organisation in Dhaka, said she received many threats and ransom demands over the phone.

News of her getting ransom demands was also published in various media.

The singer claimed to have no personal enemy and said he was not involved in politics.

Police have arrested three persons, including Tintin’s driver Udayan Chakma, for their suspected involvement in the abduction.

The area from where they were abducted is the same spot from where three foreign nationals were abducted and held captive for one month in 2001.
