RAB’s media wing Deputy Director Maj Rummon Mahmud said, the detainee used to post ‘objectionable’ photos on the internet.

“He used to carry out propaganda with those pictures,” Mahmud told bdnews24.com.

He identified the man as Abdul Malek Selim alias Selim Pasha, 38, hailing from Comilla’s Nangolkot.

A laptop has been confiscated from him.

RAB-1 Captain Kismat Hayat said ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ organisation’s chief Ilias Kanchan had lodged a complaint with RAB that someone opened a Facebook page in his group’s name and uploaded indecent, defamatory and embarrassing materials.

The law enforcers learnt that Selim was the perpetrator and arrested him in front of the Jamuna Future Park around 11pm on Thursday night.

Two mobile phones were found on him. RAB then raided his Baridhara residence and confiscated his laptop.

According to RAB, Selim had gone to Saudi Arabia in 1993 and started computer and VoIP business. He started his own computer and VoIP businesses upon his return in 2007.

He has two shops at Baridhara’s Subastu Nazar Valley market and an apartment at Baridhara.

Selim has reportedly told RAB that he opened an online portal in 2011. He said he had been uploading various ‘indecent pictures’ on the site to make it popular.

He also opened Facebook pages using the names of ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’, ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’, ‘Ami Tomay Bhalobashi’, ‘Basher Kella’, and Dr Asif Nazrul.

RAB officer Mostaq Sarkar said Selim used three e-mail ids for this purpose.
