5 injured in gas line explosion

Five people were severely injured when a gas line exploded at a washing facility in Keraniganj’s Kaliganj.

The factory at Mohuripatti was using an illegal gas line to wash various types of garments at night, Keraniganj Police OC Jamal Uddin Mir told bdnews24.com.

“The line exploded at dawn leaving five injured,” he said.

“The blast completely destroyed one of the walls," said Fire Service Control Room official Ataur Rahman.

Among the five workers, four were burnt.

The injured ‘Faruk’, 24, was admitted at Mitford Hospital.

Other injured – factory’s owner Jahangir Hossain, 41, Dulal Miah, 22, Shahadat Hossain, 25, and ‘Rajib’, 26 – were admitted in the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

“Their bodies have been burned and they are also suffering from severe breathing problems.”

They are all in critical state, he said. ‘Rajib’ has 42 per cent burns and the others suffered 50 per cent.
