The terminal will be shifted there by June, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader said on Thursday.

A permanent terminal would be built at Kandiparha, he said.

The relocation would remove the obstacle in the construction of the Padma bridge, Quader told reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting with Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud.

The temporary relocation would cost Tk 1.05 billion, while the permanent facility would involve an outlay of Tk five billion.

The Shipping Ministry will undertake the relocation work.

The one-kilometre Mawa-Shimulia road would also be built within the shortest possible time, Quader said. “The army is being tasked with the job.”

The construction of the Padma bridge will start in June and river management would begin in August, he said.
