According to his office, the briefing is scheduled at about 3pm at the state guest house ‘Padma’.

The minister started briefing diplomats in phases on Dec 23 after US, EU and Commonwealth nations refused to send observers to the Jan 5 polls, saying they were not inclusive and credible.

He has already briefed envoys of South Asian and South-east Asian countries, those from OIC nations, US, Canada, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Russia, Norway, the Vatican, and the UN Resident Coordinator.

The minister told diplomats that the government would thwart “any threat to the security and stability of Bangladesh and its people”.

He said the government would also resist any attempt “to deprive the electorate from exercising their democratic right to vote” during the elections.

The diplomats, however, expressed their security concerns particularly during the blockades and shutdown when processions took place around the diplomatic enclave.

The Opposition BNP boycotted the polls protesting against the ruling Awami League-installed cabinet for elections oversight.
