Justice Anwarul Haque is reading the first part of the 172-page summary verdict at around 10:45am on Tuesday in a packed courtroom.

Salauddin Quader faces 23 charges of crimes against humanity committed during Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War.

A prison van carrying him from the Dhaka Central Jail entered the court premises around 10am.

His crimes were reported from Chittagong during the War of Independence.

Later he has been elected MP six times from the city.

Chairman of the tribunal, Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, made opening statements at around 10:43am.

He would announce the punishment, if any, after Justice Jahangir Hossain finishes reading the second part.

The BNP Standing Committee member was indicted for 23 war crimes charges including murder, genocide, abduction, and torture.

His son Hummam Quader Chowdhury alleged they have 'already read the judgment' in a web portal.

"We are here to witness the farce of a trial," he said outside the courtroom.

"We came in with our whole family to witness the fun," he said.
