A group of ready made garment workers blocking the busy Airport Road in Dhaka to press for several demands including salary hikes on Sunday, police said.
The abrupt blockade led to huge tailbacks on both ends of the road.
Witnesses said nearly 1,000 workers of four garments factories took out a procession around 8:30am in Khilkhet disrupting vehicular movement.
Thousands of office-goers were stranded on their way to work.
Police tried to talk the protesters off the road on several occasions without success.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner for Gulshan zone, Lutful Kabir said they lobbed several teargas canisters to disperse the workers.
He said traffic resumed shortly after the road was cleared.
“Vehicular movement would be normal soon,” he hoped.
