“The court’s order absolute,” Election Commissioner Md Shah Nawaz said in an immediate reaction.

Earlier in the day, a High Court bench cancelled the registration of Jamaat, which opposed Bangladesh’s independence and many of whose leaders are now facing trials or have been convicted by special war crimes tribunals.

“We’ll decide on our next steps after getting a copy of the verdict,” Shah Nazaw said.

The party will not be able to contest the national polls without registration.
