Tarek disguise deceived Milki

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday said Juba League leader Zahid Siddique Tarek was in disguise, dressed in a white Punjabi-Pajama and wearing a scalp hat, to deceive Reazul Haque Milki when he gunned down the leader of his own organisation.

Milki, an Organising Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan (south) unit, was shot in the head in the early hours of Tuesday in front of a Gulshan shopping centre.

A closed-circuit camera in the shopping mall captured the incident. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) identified Tarek, another Organising Secretary of the Awami League’ youth front as the killer from the video footage and arrested him within hours of the killing.

”When we analysed the video footage, we saw Zahid walking right towards Milki holding a mobile phone on his left ear and shooting him with a firearm on his right hand,” RAB's Media Cell Director ATM Habibur Rahman told bdnews24.com.

”The walking-style of Tarek will primarily suggest he was a pedestrian in a hurry,” he added.

The RAB official claimed Tarek took that particular strategy so that “Milki does not understand his plan.”

As he comes face to face with Milki, the assailant is seen firing a single shot at him with a small firearm. As Milki writhes in agony on the ground, the assailant fires another one at him to ensure his death.

Rahman said Tarek had put on the disguise as “in numerous case miscreants fails to kill if the first bullet misses the target.”

Asked whether Tarek held the phone to let someone hear Milki’s scream, he said, “We did not ask Tarek anything about it, as he is injured.”

”We’ll investigate the matter,” he added.

Rahman said the weapon used in the murder was yet to be recovered and added all those who had been arrested had already been handed over to Gulshan Police.

His brother Major Rashidul Haque Khan filed a case with Gulshan police on Tuesday night naming 11 including Tarek for the murder.

Juba League has already expelled the Dhaka Metropolitan (South) Joint Secretary Tarek and Dhaka Metropolitan (north) Organising Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Chanchal over the incident.

RAB has moved the Home Ministry, seeking permission to investigate the murder.
