Religious leaders fined for campaigning

A mobile court has fined one Imam and one Moazzin (religious preachers) of a mosque in Gazipur Sadr area for carrying out campaign for a candidate in city’s maiden corporation elections.

Imam Mohammad Ruhul Amin and Moazzin Mohammad Enamul Haque were fined Tk 10,000 by a mobile court, Judge and NDC Sazid Anwar said.
“We got information that the duo had been campaigning for BNP-backed candidate Professor MA Mannan after Thursday’s Magrib prayers (in evening). We went to the spot and caught them in the act,” he told bdnews24.com. “They have been fined for breach of code of conducts.”
The maiden Gazipur City Corporation elections are scheduled for Jul 6.
