Police had sought a remand of 35 days to grill him custody in cases related to vandalism, arson, explosions, attack on police and obstructing law enforcers from discharging duties.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur granted 10 days remand after hearing the cases.

Remand petition in one case and bail petitions (on behalf of Delwar Hussen) in all cases was quashed by the judge.

The Shibir President has been in police custody for 35 days since his arrest on Mar 31.

Defence had argued against renewed remand petitions. "For how many more days police will keep Delwar in custody in the pretext of questioning."

State lawyer Sazzadul Haque Shihab argued that "He ( Delwar Hussen) had plotted the violence unleashed during the strike so it is necessary to quiz him more."

There were more than a hundred cases pending throughout the country against Delwar Hussen.

Islami Chhatra Shibir is the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, the organisation that had sided with Pakistan during Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
