Rana, 5 RMG owners in court

Sohel Rana, the owner of Rana Plaza, the building which caved in at Savar killing over 380 people, and those of the four garment factories housed in the high-rise have been taken to the High Court.

Two benches of the court had summoned the Rana Plaza owner, and the chairmen, managing directors and the chief executives of the five garment units housed in the collapsed high-rise.
Bench of justices Mirza Hussain Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar issued the summons on Apr 25.
Savar police OC was ordered to present them before it on Apr 30 and the Superintendent of Dhaka Police was asked to ensure their presence.
The bench of justices Naima Haider and Zafar Ahmed also summoned the Rana Plaza owner and owners of the garment factories. However, Rana and the garments owners have been taken to the bench of justices Haider and Sarker.
Rana, Ether Tex owner Anisur Rahman, Phantom Apparels and Phantom Tac owner Aminul Islam, New Wave Bottom owner Mahmudur Rahman Tapas, New Wave Style owner Bazlus Samad Adnan were taken to the court on Tuesday in a prison van.
The elite crime fighting unit RAB had arrested Rana from Benapole on Sunday as he was planning to cross over to India.
Police have detained Rana’s father Abdul Khalek on Monday in two cases filed over the country’s biggest industrial disaster.
The nine-storey building caved in on Apr 24, a day after huge cracks were spotted on the structure with over 3,000 people inside.
Rescue work is going on at the site.
Police and the capital’s development authority had filed two cases over the incident. The law keepers have also detained four owners of the five factories in the same cases.
