Over a hundred paddle clips had been dislodged on the tracks, but they were finally restored and the rail services resumed at 8:00am, Bogra Railway Station Manager Benzurul Alam said.
Locals said Shibir activists carried out the sabotage around 3:00am. Clips were reportedly removed over a half-a-kilometer section.
Paddle clips root rail lines with slippers and keeps the lines in place. The sabotage might have caused a train to derail.
Shibir had called a daylong shutdown in Rajshahi and Rangpur division for Wednesday protesting the arrest of their President Delwar Hussen.
Earlier on Tuesday, at least 20 passengers were injured as seven carriages and the engine of an inter-city train derailed due to a similar act of sabotage in Comilla. Rail link was restored at 15 hours of the derailment.
Such acts of sabotage have multiplied after Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death on Feb 28. Police and officials had blamed Jamaat for them.
Also, a particular Facebook page – believed to be run by the Islami Chhatra Shibir – had posted specific information on possible acts of sabotage. Topping the list was to damage the nationwide railway links.
Shibir is the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami.
