Jamaat fires on police in Satkhira

Jamaat activists opened fire and pelted stones, injuring three policemen at Satkhira on the second day of the 36-hour 18-Party Alliance-sponsored strike.

More than one hundred Jamaat-Shibir supporters started digging up a road on Satkhira-Khulna highway when police tries to stop them in the morning, Sadar Police Station OC Aman Ullah told bdnews24.com.
The Jamaat-Shibir activists opened fire, hitting Sadar Thana Constable Anisur Rahman Anis. Detective police Sub Inspector Reza and Constable Mostafiz were injured they were hit by stones flung at the policemen.
The injured policemen were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, he said.
Jamaat, a key ally of 18-Party Alliance leader BNP, have been systematically attacking the police since November last year to back their demand for abolition of war crimes trials and release of their leaders.
In the wave of violence after Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee's death sentence, at least 70 people were killed. Seven of them were policemen.
