They had been detained after the opposition alliance’s rally in front of the party headquarters fizzled out amid chaos on Monday.

BNP’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was taken into custody soon after he gave a daylong countrywide shutdown call for Tuesday on behalf of the 18-Party Alliance.

Towards evening, police raided the BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters and detained several other senior leaders including Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.

Around 1pm on Tuesday, the law enforcers released Fakhrul, Khoka and Chowdhury.

No further details were available immediately.

Meanwhile, police filed two cases over Monday’s blasts in front of the BNP headquarters implicating 154 leaders and activists of the opposition alliance.
