Three handmade bombs exploded after they were thrown at police between the city’s Rajahata and Hetemkhan areas in the morning, Boalia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman Zia said.

But there were no reports of any casualties.

Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out the procession from the city’s Sonadighi Moni intersection around 9am.

Police broke up the procession later by lobbing teargas shells, firing rubber bullets and in the air, Zia said.

However, Jamaat’s Rajshahi metropolitan unit Assistant General Secretary Emaj Uddin alleged that five of their activists were injured when police attacked them during the procession.
