Imran H Sarker, the Spokesperson for the Mancha, the epicentre of civil uprising at Shahbagh demanding death to all convicted war criminals, said on Friday that the opposition party’s strike call for Tuesday was ‘unexpected’.

He was giving the Ganajagaran Mancha reactions hours after Khaleda Zia announce a daylong countrywide shutdown.

“The Ganajagaran Mancha finds the call the BNP made for enforcing a daylong strike on Mar 5 is unexpected.”

Speaking at press meet at her Gulshan office, the BNP Chairperson branded the bloodshed following sentencing of Sayedee ‘genocide’.

She also hit out at the demonstrating in Shahbagh for execution of war crimes convicts, branding it as ‘provocative’ and ‘illegal.’

“We know the honourable leader of the opposition is the wife of a freedom fighter. Her party BNP claims to have the highest number of freedom fighter believing in their politics,” said Imran.

“So we urge the BNP to assist in the hastening of the war crimes trial after boycotting the anti-independence party Jamaat-e-Islami and its cadre force (Islami Chhatra Shibir).”

He expected that the BNP will play a positive role in building a country in light of the spirit of the War of Independence.

“In parliamentary democracy, the nation takes shelter behind the opposition leader. The nation expects Bangladesh will advance imbued with the spirit of Independent War by resisting the force against our independence.”

“Ganajagaran Mancha thinks this forward march will pace with the honourable opposition leader playing a pro-active, positive role.”
