Chittagong, Sep 7 (bdnews24.com) – A Chittagong court has rejected a bail prayer by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Matiur Rahman Nizami accused in a major arms haul case, which has alleged involvement of an Indian insurgent group.
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Court and Special Tribunal-1 judge SM Mujibur Rahman made the order on Wednesday after he was produced before the court.
Nizami was then industries minister in BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's cabinet when police seized 10 truckloads of weapons and ammunition from a jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL) on the night of Apr 1, 2004.
The court also rejected bail pleas by two others on Wednesday.
Former CUFL general manager (admin) Enamul Hoque and suspected smuggler Din Mohammad were sent to jail after their please had been rejected.
The court will sit on Oct 3 again to continue the hearing.
The judge also ordered to produce the absconding former industries secretary Mohammad Nurul Amin and Indian separatist group United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) leader Paresh Barua on the day.
