Dhaka, Nov 28 (bdnews24.com) — Police hunt for the 'villain' came to an end as the ward commissioner turned himself in to police in the capital on Sunday night.
Dipjol arrived at the Dar-us-Salam Police Station at 9:50pm by a microbus. In the driving seat was the Dhallywood actor himself.
Monwar Hossain Dipjol had come to surrender after a number of attempts by the police to arrest him had failed.
Officer-in-charge Abdul Malek told bdnews24.com that the actor had given himself up to sub inspector Hamidur Rahman, on duty there.
The police sued Dipjol on Nov 16 for assaulting a policeman. He had allegedly slapped and threatened law enforcers.
Police constable Altaf Uddin filed the case with the police station at about 4:30pm that day.
Malek had told bdnews24.com, "The traffic constable was on duty at the Gabtoli intersection at 10:15am when Dipjol's speeding car ran a red light."
"As constable Altaf obstructed him, Dipjol got down, slapped the constable quite like in the movies," Malek said. The police officer said Dipjol
was also hurling abuses at the constable the entire time.
"Dipjol said, 'Do you know who I am? You have some nerve to stop my car'."
The film actor also took out a pistol, Malek alleged. "On information, we rushed to the spot, but couldn't get hold of him. But we are still trying to detain him."
Dipjol had been arrested during the tenure of the military-installed caretaker government on different charges against him that includes extortion and encroachment of government land.
Two illegal firearms were also recovered from his Gabtoli residence at that time.
He was freed after the Awami League-led government came to power in 2009.
