The government has condemned an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon that killed two Bangladeshi expatriates, while two others remain missing following a separate attack.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and adhere to international law.
The two victims, identified as Shafiqul Islam, 40, and Mohammad Nahidul Islam, 20, both hailed from Satkhira District.
They were killed around noon on Monday when a drone attacked their residence in Zebdine of Nabatieh.
The situation worsened on Monday night when a separate drone strike targeted another residential area in Nabatieh known to house Bangladeshi migrants.
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, first secretary (labour) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, told bdnews24.com that two more Bangladeshis are missing following that attack.
"The drone strike completely destroyed their living quarters. We cannot officially confirm their deaths as their bodies have not yet been recovered," he said.
The foreign ministry expressed "deepest condolences" to the families of the victims, describing the attack as a "heinous strike" by Israeli forces.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut is currently working with Lebanese authorities to repatriate the bodies of Shafiqul and Nahidul.
The embassy is also maintaining constant contact with the victims' families in Satkhira, an official statement said.
