More than a hundred makeshift stalls are set up daily on the pavement of Manik Mia Avenue along the boundary of the parliament compound. Waste from these food stalls, selling snacks such as fuchka and chotpoti, is dumped right on the spot. Left to rot, they spread a foul smell that makes the area unpleasant for pedestrians and visitors.

Ongoing repair work has only added to the suffering. Drainage work has been under way for the past three to four months, and only when that ends will the real repair work begin.
