Seven-college students block Dhaka streets again

Students from seven government colleges have staged a protest for the second consecutive day on Thursday, blocking the Science Laboratory intersection in the capital to press for the issuance of the final ordinance to establish Dhaka Central University. The blockade caused severe traffic congestion, leaving commuters stranded and facing significant inconvenience.

Rubbish heap outside parliament building

More than a hundred makeshift stalls are set up daily on the pavement of Manik Mia Avenue along the boundary of the parliament compound. Waste from these food stalls, selling snacks such as fuchka and chotpoti, is dumped right on the spot. Left to rot, they spread a foul smell that makes the area unpleasant for pedestrians and visitors.

When will the work end?

The road under the flyover from Postogola Bridge to Jatrabari intersection has long been in disrepair. Commuters have suffered for years due to potholes of different sizes. Ongoing repair work has only added to the suffering. Drainage work has been under way for the past three to four months, and only when that ends will the real repair work begin.

Escalators left idle

The escalators of the foot overbridge in front of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka have long been out of order. Lack of maintenance and monitoring has left them covered in dirt and garbage.
