Former world champions Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are poised to square off in an exhibition bout in 2026, marking an unexpected showdown between two of boxing’s biggest names.
The fight, organised by CSI Sports/Fight Sports, is awaiting final confirmation of details, according to BBC Sport.
Tyson, now 59, is preparing to return to the ring following his defeat to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November last year, which marked the end of a 19-year retirement.
Mayweather, 48, retired in 2017 with an unbeaten 50-0 record across multiple weight classes. Since then, he has taken part in a series of exhibitions, most recently against John Gotti III in August.
"This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets."
The two fighters’ careers contrast sharply. Tyson earned 50 wins in 58 fights, all at heavyweight, while Mayweather dominated in lighter divisions later in his career.
Exhibition bouts typically do not declare official winners and have no impact on fighters’ professional records.
"You already know that if I am going to do something, it's going to be big and it's going to be legendary," Mayweather said. "I'm the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want."
