Lalmonirhat, May 23 (BDNEWS)– People of the district are deprived of the service of the political leaders including the lawmakers, as their activities are limited to nomination and election only.
Party activities are just to make a public appearance of the leaders and to book their names as potential candidates for the next election.
Lalmonirhat district consists of three constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad, which are represented by three different lawmakers of three different parties.
In the last parliamentary election, Hatibandha upazila Awami League (AL) president Motahar Hossain was elected from Lalmonirhat-1 (Patgram and Hatibandha) constituency while Mujibur Rahman of Jatiya Party and Deputy Minister of ruling BNP Prof Asadul Habib Dulu were elected from Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj and Aditmari) and Lalmonirhat-3 (district sadar and one municipality) constituencies respectively.
The prospective candidates of different parties for the next election are now seen busy with the election-oriented activities in their respective constituencies and lobbying at the central level.
In the constituency-1, Motahar Hossain is likely to get the party card, as he is the incumbent lawmaker. He was defeated twice before 2001. He expedited his organisational activities including mass contact to strengthen his candidacy and position of his party as well.
As BNP is lacking a strong candidate in the constituency, Ershad Hossain Saju of Jamaat-e-Islami might be nominated as the alliance candidate though he has no distinct political carrier.
Ershad Hossain Saju is busy with trade while Jatiya Party candidate Zainal Abedin is rarely seen in the political activities after his defeat in the last election.
In Lalmonirhat-2 Jatiya Party candidate Mujibur Rahman was elected in the last election for record six consecutive terms. His nearest rival was Kaliganj upazila AL president Nuruzzaman Ahmed who was defeated by a narrow margin of 3203 votes.
The district BNP general secretary Saleh Uddin Ahmed Helal was the coalition candidate.
In the constituency-3, BNP candidate and present Deputy Minister Prof Asadul Habib Dulu bagged 63,359 votes in the last parliamentary election while his nearest rival AL nominee engineer Abu Syed Dulal got 42,912 votes. Securing the third position Jatiya Party candidate Golam Mohammad Kader got 33,805 votes.
Despite his ministerial duties in Dhaka, Asadul Habib Dulu participates in the organisational activities at his constituency regularly.
His nearest contender in the last election, AL leader Abu Syed Dulal also stays in Dhaka but he too comes to his constituency to take part in the party programmes.
On the other hand, Jatiya Party leader GM Kader, who managed to win the 1996 election, left the area after his defeat in 2001.
