Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman says a group is conspiring against him, alleging that his X account was hacked as part of a coordinated effort to target him.
Speaking at an election rally at the Kurigram Government College ground on Wednesday around 12:30pm, Shafiqur said his account had been compromised four days earlier and used to spread misleading content.
“Now a group is after me,” he said.
“They hacked my X ID and began their activities. Then another group immediately joined in and began spreading things in the same manner. Shame!”
He claimed the attempt had failed, saying Jamaat’s cyber team had identified those involved.
“The truth can never be hidden,” he said, adding that the main conspirator had been arrested by police a day earlier.
“Clouds cannot cover the truth. The truth has now come out.”
DEVELOPMENT PROMISE FOR KURIGRAM
Describing Kurigram as one of the country’s most underdeveloped districts, the Jamaat chief said his party’s development agenda would begin there if it came to power.
“Our development journey will start from this backward Kurigram,” he said.
“You do not need to make demands. It is our moral responsibility to develop deprived areas.”
He promised to turn Kurigram into a hub for agricultural industry, saying an agricultural revolution would generate employment and transform livelihoods.
“May Allah fill this deprived area with prosperity,” he said.
Shafiqur also blamed decades of neglect for the district’s problems, referring to the three major rivers flowing through the region.
“These rivers have been destroyed and turned into deserts,” he said, alleging widespread corruption in national development spending.
Claiming that Tk 28 trillion had been looted and siphoned abroad, he said, “If we are given the opportunity to run the state, I will bring this money back.”
He also accused unnamed groups of harassing women, making threats and attempting to remove hijabs, or headscarves.
“Shame,” he said, urging people not to be afraid.
“This is my Bangladesh, your Bangladesh. This country will belong to the people.”
The Jamaat leader pledged that women’s safety would be ensured if his party came to power.
“Women will no longer be victims of rape in this country,” he said.
“We will ensure security and dignity on roads, in workplaces, and everywhere, regardless of race or religion.”
He also urged voters in Kurigram-2 to support the 11-party alliance-backed National Citizens Party candidate Atiqur Rahman, asking them to vote for the Shapla Koli (lotus bud) symbol.
Addressing the gathering, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said the upcoming vote would determine the country’s future.
“A ‘yes’ vote means freedom, a ‘no’ vote means slavery,” he said, adding that they sought to establish a politics rooted in justice and humanity.
