Jatiya Party Secretary General Shameem Haider Patwary has raised doubts over the realism of the proposed budget for the new fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan said implementing this budget, which he claims serves the interests of the wealthy, will be difficult.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury proposed a budget of Tk 9.38 trillion for the 2026-27 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday,
In a reaction immediately after the budget announcement, Shameem said, "The targets set in the budget will never be achieved.”
“Consequently, the government will fund the development budget through borrowing. We will also see that the salary and public revenue budgets will be managed on the basis of loans.”
The Jatiya Party leader said if salaries are increased and the pay scale is implemented, it will put the private sector under pressure.
“We can foresee the potential for severe inflation, and there are no directives in the budget to control it. There is also no proper guidance on job creation."
The CPB president said, "Such a large budget is not suitable for our country.
“Within this, a deficit budget of nearly Tk 2.5 trillion has been proposed. This money will ultimately be sourced by collecting taxes from the public.
Although it was noted in the budget that the prices of daily essentials will drop, prices in Bangladesh never actually decrease, and instead, import traders have been given benefits once again, he added.
"This budget does not clearly state what workers' wages or the minimum wage will be. Nor does it clearly address farmers' cooperatives, cold storage facilities, warehouses, or how paddy prices will be determined.”
“The type of budget that previous governments put together to serve the interests of the wealthy has been presented this time as well. The bottom line is, this is difficult to implement,” he concluded.
