His younger brother Jubi Musa filed the request to withdraw his nomination for Dhaka North to the returning officer on Thursday.
Hajjaj, son to business magnate Musa Bin Shamser, was removed as special advisor to Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad after he decided to run in the election slated for Apr 28.
His announcement to run for mayor came on Mar 21 after Jatiya Party said it would back Bahauddin Ahmed Babul for north.
But Hajjaj held on and was seen campaigning on Wednesday.
Educated abroad, he joined as chief executive of Jatiya Party Research and Strategy Wing (JPRSW) and special advisor to the party chairman in 2013.
No confidence in EC
Bobby explained the reason behind his leaving the mayor race at a press conference at an office of a family business at Banani.
Without naming Jatiya Party, he said ‘a party’ was pressuring his supporters to abstain from his campaign.
“That party expelled two of my supporters when I started campaign yesterday (Wednesday),” he said.
“It’s a non-partisan election. But if someone’s political carrier is threatened for supporting an independent candidate in this (non-partisan) polls, I will not take the responsibility,” he said.
“I don’t believe in such politics,” he added.
Bobby alleged the Election Commission was not playing the role it was supposed to in this regard.
“We do not have the confidence that the election will be free and fair,” he said.
He also alleged he informed the EC about the pressure on his supporters but it did not take any step.
Expelled leaders of Jatiya Party ATM Golam Mawla Chowdhury and Mostakur Rahman were with him during the press conference.
