Dhaka, Dec 21 (bdnews24.com) – The followers of the late Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani will revive the National Awami Party or NAP, a political outfit that got dissolved in the BNP in the late 1970s.
Shafiqul Gani Swapan, a cabinet minister under General HM Ershad, has taken the initiative and a formal re-launch has been scheduled for Friday at 3pm at Hotel Purbani.
Swapan, the chairman designate, will give a press conference.
Many of the NAP (Bhasani) leaders later became part of the Ershad-led military regime.
The Moulana, an integral part of Bangladesh's political history for decades, died in 1976.
Two years later, one of his ardent followers, Moshiur Rahman (Jadu Miah) buried his party to merge with the Bangladesh Nationalist Front, an alliance of various right and pro-Chinese left parties, sponsored by General Ziaur Rahman.
The Front was later transformed into Bangladesh Nationalist Party or BNP.
Swapan is son of the late Jadu Miah.
