The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has reported higher income in the election year, while its spending has tripled from a year earlier.

A BNP delegation led by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi submitted the party's financial statement for the 2025 calendar year to Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhter Ahmed on Sunday.

According to figures shared by Rizvi, the BNP earned Tk 221.96 million last year and spent Tk 152.61 million.

Including this year's surplus, the party's fund now stands at more than Tk 280 million, including its previous balance.

In 2024, the party reported income of Tk 156.59 million and expenditure of Tk 48 million.

It formed the government after winning a two-thirds majority in the February election.

Political parties typically report income from regular membership dues, donations from individuals and well-wishers, and proceeds from selling party nomination forms.

On the expenditure side, the BNP listed costs for running its year-round organisational activities, implementing political programmes, publishing leaflets and posters, maintaining its central and local offices, paying staff salaries, and financial assistance for party leaders and activists in need.

Besides Rizvi, the BNP delegation included party treasurer and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, along with assistant office secretary Monir Hossain.

After submitting the audited report to the EC secretary, Rizvi said the accounts had been prepared by following all required procedures.

According to him, political parties in a democratic country should submit income and expenditure reports as part of strengthening democracy, allowing people to know how elected parties are run, where their income comes from and how they spend it.

Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), parties must submit audited financial statements for the previous calendar year to the commission by Jul 31 every year.
