Tarique Rahman has urged professionals to help secure a strong public mandate in the parliamentary election, warning that a government formed on weak support would struggle to carry out many of its tasks.
The BNP's acting chairman made the appeal while addressing a views-exchange meeting with professionals in London via video link on Sunday night.
The Election Commission announced the schedule for the national election and the referendum on Thursday, setting the date for voting on Feb 12.
The BNP is discussing its party programmes over the election in different forums.
During the exchange of views with professionals, Tarique said public support is essential to implement the plans the party has made and the next government must stand on a strong mandate to carry out these tasks.
He later urged the professionals to assist them from their positions.
The BNP acting chair highlighted that establishing the rule of law and improving the law and order situation in the country would be the BNP's top priority if it forms the government next.
Ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and curbing corruption will be the first and foremost responsibilities of the incoming government, he said. “With these foundations, other initiatives can be undertaken, and many problems can be addressed more effectively.”
Tarique also detailed BNP’s plans for the country, particularly focusing on the education system, unemployment, family, farmer, and health cards, among other areas.
