A total of 26,334 members from law-enforcing agencies will be on duty in Cumilla to maintain security during the general election across its 11 parliamentary constituencies.

The force comprises 3,979 police members, 2,040 Army personnel, 400 Border Guard Bangladesh troopers, and 19,383 members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), Cumilla District Police Superintendent Md Anisuzzaman said.

At a briefing for police and Armed Police Battalion members at the Cumilla Police Lines on Tuesday, Anisuzzaman instructed officers to keep their body cameras active throughout their shifts.

He directed them to report any complaints or grievances to the presiding officers immediately.

The officer also urged the force to work diligently to move past previous controversies and improve their public image.

The Army, meanwhile, conducted security drills in parts of Cumilla city on Tuesday to maintain law and order.

The patrols began in the Tomsombridge area in the afternoon and moved through Kandirpar, the Press Club, the Police Lines, and adjoining roads.

Similar security exercises were also held at different centres across sub-districts.

The drills focused on polling station safety, voter protection, secure return home for voters, coordination among security forces, and rapid response to any untoward incidents.

Election day security forces will consist of 73 executive magistrates, 25 judicial magistrates, 55 army platoons, 39 BGB platoons, 24 mobile RAB teams, 3,979 police, and a large Ansar-VDP contingent, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Reza Hasan said.

From Wednesday morning, election materials, including ballot boxes and ballot papers, will be sent under tight security from the offices of assistant returning officers in 17 Upazilas to 1,491 polling centres across the district.

Officer Reza noted that the executive and judicial magistrates assigned to law and order monitoring are already stationed in their respective areas.
