Under Article 16 of the Representation of the People Order, a validly nominated candidate may withdraw their candidacy by submitting a signed written notice to the returning officer, either personally or through an authorised representative, by or before the deadline.
The law also says that if a registered political party nominates more than one candidate in a constituency, the party president, general secretary or an equivalent member must formally notify the returning officer in writing of its final nominee.
As the deadline for withdrawal ends on Tuesday, candidates are set to receive their electoral symbols on Wednesday and may begin campaigning the following day.
According to an Election Commission (EC) circular, the list of contesting candidates must be published on Jan 21 after symbols are allocated, with names arranged in Bangla alphabetical order as per Form 5.
Polling is scheduled to take place on Feb 12 from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
