No more deaths have been reported from dengue in the past 24 hours, but 68 new patients have been admitted to hospitals with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease. It is the lowest new case count so far in July.
So far, July has brought 1,711 hospitalisations from dengue, with 190 new cases on Jul 9, 251 on Jul 8, and 196 on Jul 7.
The latest figures, published in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily bulletin on Friday, keeps the number of dengue deaths this year at 24. July has seen six deaths so far.
The bulletin to 8am on Friday shows that hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation admitted four dengue patients during the 24-hour period, while hospitals under the Dhaka South City Corporation admitted 13. Outside the city corporations, Dhaka recorded 14 new cases.
Barishal Division recorded two admissions, Chattogram 21, Khulna 10, and Mymensingh one.
During the same period, 73 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment. Since Jan 1, a total of 7,815 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide.
Of them, 7,141 have recovered and been discharged, according to the DGHS data.
The DGHS began tracking dengue hospitalisations and deaths from 2000. The worst outbreak was in 2023, which saw 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths. Last year, over 400 deaths were recorded from the disease and 102,000 cases logged.
