Bangladesh has recorded eight deaths with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours, marking the highest single-day toll so far this month.
The latest Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily bulletin, published on Thursday, said eight people died with measles symptoms between 8am on Wednesday and the following 24 hours.
The previous highest daily toll this month was reported on Tuesday, when seven such deaths were recorded.
The bulletin also said 197 new measles cases were confirmed during the same period.
The DGHS has been publishing daily measles updates since Mar 15.
According to the latest figures, the number of confirmed measles deaths nationwide remains at 95, while the number of people who have died with measles symptoms has risen to 684.
Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms at 298, followed by Sylhet with 94.
Rajshahi has reported 89 such deaths, Chattogram 55, Mymensingh 65, Barishal 43, Khulna 31 and Rangpur nine.
The health authorities also reported that 974 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country over the past 24 hours.
Of them, 941 were admitted for treatment.
Dhaka Division accounted for the highest number of admissions with 320 patients, followed by Chattogram with 240, Barishal 114, Sylhet 92, Khulna 75, Mymensingh 58, Rajshahi 29 and Rangpur 13.
With the latest admissions, the cumulative number of measles patients admitted to hospitals nationwide has reached 97,819.
Among them, 94,275 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
The DGHS data also shows that the number of suspected cases across the country has risen to 115,138.
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases now stands at 14,104.
