‘Not getting married,’ Pori Moni says after Argentina's exit from World Cup

After Argentina's fate was sealed, many social media users asked whether the actress would still go ahead with her promise to get married

Like millions of Argentina supporters around the world, film actress Shamsunnahar Smrity Pori Moni has been heartbroken after her favourite team was knocked out of the FIFA World Cup.

Even amid the disappointment, the actress once again grabbed attention by joking about her "marriage" in a Facebook post.

After Argentina's title hopes came to an end, Pori Moni shared a lighthearted update about her much-discussed marriage promise.

She wrote: "Looks like I won't have to get married after all. See you again, my beloved Argentina."

Once Argentina's elimination was confirmed, social media was flooded with posts asking whether Pori Moni would still get married. Her latest post quickly answered the question, making both the match and her marriage promise a hot topic of discussion overnight.

Throughout the World Cup, Pori Moni was an outspoken supporter of Argentina. She celebrated each of the team's victories on Facebook, posted videos wearing the sky-blue and white jersey, and frequently expressed her admiration for Lionel Messi.

Ahead of one of Argentina's crucial matches, she had written on Facebook: "If Argentina wins the World Cup, I'll get married again. Final."

When Argentina won that match and stayed alive in the tournament, she followed it up with another humorous post directed at England captain: "Harry Kane, you couldn't stop my wedding!"

That tongue-in-cheek post went viral, drawing hundreds of thousands of reactions and shares. Fans flooded the comments, with some offering congratulations in advance and others jokingly volunteering to be the groom.

The post even caught the attention of fellow entertainment personalities.

Actor Shahriar Nazim Joy wrote on Facebook, "I once called Pori Moni to apologise for a mistake I had made, and she forgave me. If Argentina really wins and she actually gets married, then as her brother, I'll take responsibility for all the wedding expenses."

However, with Argentina now eliminated from the World Cup, Pori Moni's much-talked-about wedding is no longer expected to happen. Even so, her latest Facebook post has already received more than 50,000 reactions.
