Wednesday's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations across all districts under the Chattogram education board have been postponed, just three hours after an initial suspension order was issued for three specific districts.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee announced the decision due to adverse weather conditions. Examinations under other education boards across the country will proceed as scheduled.
When the committee announced the decision shortly after 1am on Wednesday, there were only nine hours left before the exams were due to begin.
Earlier on Tuesday night, suspensions had been announced for Chattogram and Rangamati districts at 10:45pm, followed by Cox's Bazar district at 11:45pm.
The notices said that the revised schedule for these examinations would be announced at a later date.
The decision to postpone the exams was taken based on reports received from the deputy commissioners of all districts within the Chattogram Division, the statements read.
This year’s HSC tests under the country’s nine general education boards are being conducted using uniform question papers.
Speaking at a media briefing on Jul 1, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said three sets of question papers had been prepared for every single subject in anticipation of any adverse situations.
The HSC and equivalent exams began this year on Jul 2.
Some 1.27 million regular and irregular candidates across the country's 11 education boards have registered for the tests.
