The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has ordered schools to remain open on 10 Saturdays after the start of classes when the prolonged Ramadan and Eid holidays end, to “fill learning gap”.

Md Joynal Abedin, deputy director (pre-primary and integrated education) of the directorate, signed an order in this regard on Tuesday, asking district primary education officers to take measures accordingly.

The government says the decision has been taken considering the “learning gap” faced by students at government primary schools due to the holidays throughout the month of Ramadan followed by the ongoing Eid break.

The Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in government primary schools in the country began on Mar 8. At the end of the holidays, classes are scheduled to resume on Mar 29.

DPE Director General Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman told bdnews24.com, "This decision has been taken to fulfill the prescribed curriculum."
